Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced French (7 to 12 years old)
90-minute class
Developing conversation is the main focus of this class. Students are beginning to develop their reading, writing and grammatical skills. They are presented with various activities (games, songs, role-playing etc.) as a way of encouraging them to communicate in French. The class is conducted mostly in French and we make every attempt to cater to the specific needs and abilities of each child. Small class size ensures that each child receives maximum individual attention. The first part of the class (45 minutes), students will work with audio dialogues, games and songs. We have found this extremely useful in developing conversation skills. The second part of the class (45 minutes) will focus on developing written skills through exercises in the textbook.
Material:
Beginner and Intermediate: Alex et Zoe et compagnie 1 et 2 (entirely in French)
Alex et Zoe is a popular method of teaching French at Primary level. It has been designed for 7-12 year olds. The book features 15 chapters, each dealing with greetings, numbers, and basic vocabulary ranging from fruits to animals, and from body parts to places. Bright cartoon stories form the basis of the wide range of dialogues, activities and games. There are also songs for the class to sing along to and join in by playing with the activities. Additional exercises to reinforce the vocabulary appear in the "Cahier d'activités".
Advanced: Le Mag (entirely in French) Le Mag is a new French course for adolescents. Each chapter is designed as an edition of a magazine which follows the daily lives of four teenagers who participate in a journalism workshop with the goal of producing a magazine.
