Child Classes Description

The Alliance Française of Los Angeles offers a wide array of classes and specialized courses for children all year round. Our calendar is organized in 8-week sessions. For most classes, you can enroll in at any time.
We require a minimum of 3 students to open a course and enroll no more than 6 students per class. Our average class size is 4 to 6 students - an impressive student to teacher ratio.

You will receive a 10% discount when a child registers for two or more classes in the same term or if two or more siblings register within the same term. Both registrations must be completed together at the same time.

For more information about registration, please visit our REGISTRATION PAGE or call us at (310) 652-0306.

In a comfortable setting and a relaxed atmosphere, children will be given an opportunity to discover French lullabies and various instruments. Not only will they hear music, they will also be encouraged to play it!

This class is open to French and American parents.

Purchase of a baby music kit is required - $40 (this package comes with a Baby Drum and mallet, Baby Bell Stick, Maraca, Red Scarf and Baby Book).

Petit à Petit (1 to 3 years old)
45-minute class

Petit à Petit is a French language immersion class for parents and children. It will introduce your child to new sounds and to French culture through a mix of fun activities: games, songs, rhymes, storytelling and dance. The class is designed to encourage parents to participate in this experience, which deepens the parent/child bond and it provides a guide for continued learning at home.
Includes a free music CD of the most famous French lullabies.

One caregiver must accompany each child during classes.

French Summer Camp (3 to 6 years old)

Our team of dedicated teachers has planned the best French Summer Camp that you can possibly imagine: your children will be fully immersed in a French-speaking environment.

Our theme this summer is: A Trip around the World!

Week 1 & 2: Africa

Week 3 & 4: India

Week 5 & 6: China

Week 6 & 8: South America

Our program includes songs, storytelling, crafts, games, nutrition, dance, yoga and much more… all in FRENCH!

Mini-Group (3 to 6 years old)

90-minute class

Step-by-step, your child acquires new words and language structures, and reuses them in a variety of interesting age-appropriate activities such as songs, dances, games, stories, and crafts.

During snack time, toddlers practice lively routines in French that demonstrate the French savoir-vivre.

Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced French (7 to 12 years old)

90-minute class

Developing conversation is the main focus of this class. Students are beginning to develop their reading, writing and grammatical skills. They are presented with various activities (games, songs, role-playing etc.) as a way of encouraging them to communicate in French. The class is conducted mostly in French and we make every attempt to cater to the specific needs and abilities of each child. Small class size ensures that each child receives maximum individual attention. The first part of the class (45 minutes), students will work with audio dialogues, games and songs. We have found this extremely useful in developing conversation skills. The second part of the class (45 minutes) will focus on developing written skills through exercises in the textbook.

Material:

Beginner and Intermediate: Alex et Zoe et compagnie 1 et 2 (entirely in French)

Alex et Zoe is a popular method of teaching French at Primary level. It has been designed for 7-12 year olds. The book features 15 chapters, each dealing with greetings, numbers, and basic vocabulary ranging from fruits to animals, and from body parts to places. Bright cartoon stories form the basis of the wide range of dialogues, activities and games. There are also songs for the class to sing along to and join in by playing with the activities. Additional exercises to reinforce the vocabulary appear in the "Cahier d'activités".

Advanced: Le Mag (entirely in French)
Le Mag is a new French course for adolescents. Each chapter is designed as an edition of a magazine which follows the daily lives of four teenagers who participate in a journalism workshop with the goal of producing a magazine. This method incorporates adolescent-friendly topics and comic strips to make learning fun as well as beneficial. The principal aim of this course is to develop the students’ communication skills in basic daily situations.
